Work in unison for dev: Moyong

PASIGHAT, Jan 03: Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong today called upon the people to shed differences and work in unison for all round development. The MLA also put emphasis on maintaining a peaceful environment as the peace is pre-requisite for development. He was addressing the people while dedicating the Solung Welcome Gate (SWG) at 5 Mile area. The gate was voluntarily constructed by the Central Solung Festival Celebration Committee (CSFCC), Pasighat.

"It is indeed an important day in the history of East Siang district and it (the gate) portrays the unique culture of Adis," Moyong said. Stating that the majestic gate will carry the message of hospitality, he appealed the people of the neighboring villages to maintain and preserve the public property. Taking privilege, he informed that estimate for link road to Labo cultivation fields has been submitted to the government for sanction.

Leaders visit Tagak at RKMH

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: Central Working Committee Chairman of People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) Kamen Ringu accompanied by Party's Working President Kahfa Bengia and others yesterday visited state BJP president Tai Tagak at RKM Hospital (RKMH), who sustained grievous injuries in an accident on January 1, and wished him early recovery.

Tagak met with the accident when his vehicle skidded off the road due to 'break fail' and hit an electric pole near Pachin, Naharlagun, informed a BJP release.

Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang also visited Tagak today evening and wished him early recovery.

Tagak is recovering from his injuries at the Hospital, the release informed.

State National Youth Project team at Kerala

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: The Arunachal Pradesh team turned out to be cynosure of all eyes with their distinctive dresses at the week-long National Integration Peace Youth Camp which concluded at Indira Gandhi School, Mumbaram in Kannur district of Kerala.

A state National Youth Project team including Oni Ering, Yanu Magria and Ana Langha escorted by Suman Roy attended the camp with the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), which was conducted by NYP director octogenarian Dr S N Subba Rao, affectionately called Bhaiji.

They were thrilled with their exposure to the mainland as well as in sharing information about the people, their culture and traditions of this still undiscovered Himalayan state. They expressed their happiness over telephone while returning home.

The young Arunacha-lees won the hearts of the campers as well Bhaiji, who has a special love for the people of Arunachal.

Coordination meeting diffuse tension at Boleng

BOLENG, Jan 03: An emergency co-ordination meeting was convened today by Gamtum Padu, EAC in-charge ADC to diffuse the tension and stand-off between the public and IRBN personnel deputed for law and order duty at Boleng arising out of the district headquarter issue.

In the meeting the ADC appealed the public leaders present to press their demands through democratic means and not resort to violence. He cautioned that such attack on security personnel will not be tolerated further and would be dealt with strongly and appropriately as per law. The public leaders present also condemned in strongest terms the incident of the night of December 31 last wherein some youths pelted stones at the IRBN personnel who were celebrating the new year eve in their camp resulting in injuries to many of them. Later the mob attacked them and burnt their beddings and other belongings and even gheraoed the police station. During the ensuing scuffle many security personnel and public received severe injuries. Seven persons were arrested who were later on released on bail on naming the main perpetrators of the crime. The Boleng police has arrested one of the main accused and is on the hunt for the other three main culprits.

The OC IRBN, Boleng PS OC and other police officers also spoke on the occasion and put forth their views and the problems faced by them and appealed the public to maintain peace and not to take the law in their own hands.

The public leaders apologized to the IRBN personnel for the dastardly act of the youths and stated that such incidents would not be allowed to be repeated again and urged the ADC in-charge to initiate strict action against the accused persons who were defaming the people and the reputation of Boleng.

After the meeting Padu had separate meeting with the police officers and took stock of the situation on the proposed 24 hr bandh from 5am of January 4 called by the Siang district Hq demand committee against the decision of the govt. to declare Pangin as the temporary headquarters of Siang district.

State team for R-Day Tableau Parade leaves today

ROING, Jan 03: The Igu dance troupe from Lower Dibang Valley district which will be representing Arunachal Pradesh in the Republic Day Tableau Parade at Rajpath in New Delhi on January 26. The team will be leaving on Sunday for the National Capital.

The Igu dance of Idu Mishmi tribe was chosen by the Ministry of Defence earlier this year for the R-Day tableau.

Igu dance or Priest dance is a traditional dance of Idu Mishmi tribe that is performed to appease the spirits. The Igus (priests) perform these rituals for the well-being of the family and the community.

During these rituals, a ritualistic dance is performed by the Igu in which he constantly chants hymns and also plays a traditional musical instrument producing a rhythmic sound.

The team held its final rehearsals at the home ground today at the Rheko hall.

Rajya Sabha Member Mukut Mithi, Parliamentary Secretary (Horticulture) Mutchu Mithi, Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar, ZPC Sipi Elapra and President IMCLS Inju Linggi were present at the rehearsal and wished them all the best.

The 10-member team comprises four females and six males.

Arunachalee lifters shine in Asian Weightlifting Championships

ITANAGAR, Jan 03: The weightlifters of Arunachal Pradesh proved their mettle once again by clinching seven medals out of the total 10 won by the country in overall on day 1 of the 22nd Junior Women and 29th Junior Men Asian Weightlifting Championships held in Doha, Qatar.

Jimjang Deru clinched three gold medals in 56Kg category to become Asian Youth Champion-2015 in his weight category.

He lifted a total 242 kg (Snatch: 101 kg; Clean and Jerk: 141 kg), informed Arunachal Weightlifting Association (AWA).

Three gold and same number of silver and bronze medals are awarded in each weight category one each for snatch, clean and jerk, and total.

Participating in junior men's category, Jimjang settled for the second spot winning one gold in Clean & Jerk (141 kg), one silver medal each in Snatch and Total (242kg).

Another lifter from the state Lalu Taku won the Asian Youth Champion-2015 title in 62kg category.

He lifted 108 kg in Snatch, 142kg in Clean & Jerk (Total: 250kg kg) that fetched him one silver in Snatch, one gold medal each in Clean & Jerk and Total.

However, Yangfo Gungte (50kg) could not perform up to the expectations and finished fourth in Youth Boys category. He lifted 84 kg in Snatch and 98 kg in Clean and Jerk (Total-182 kg).

2014: A topsy-turvy year for Arunachal media

The New Year is often synonymous with wine, music, dance, cakes and bonfire so on. Irrespective of age, young and old, the people are partying to bid farewell to the gone year and sing paeans to an arrival of a New Year. In the process the hangover is an ultimate outcome.

Every passing year leaves bitter- sweet memories to millions of people across the globe, this is a universal truth. Millions may rejoice over the gone year 2014, and millions may mourn over it and wanting to hold it on.

Living under the same roof, the media persons in Arunachal also fell under the spell of New Year mania. Journalists are in a state of drowsiness. The affects can be seen in the local dailies' content of news.

If we parse the words, we had both the bad and good memories for the year 2014. We cheered and faced jeers. We rode on an unprecedented roller-coaster ride. We faced ups and downs. Nevertheless, at the end we moved on.

To trash down distasteful memories into the dustbin, I would first prefer to go for the harrowing days to bury them for the passing year.

Let's look back in anger upon those days!

The sky was fallen upon the media fraternity, aftermath of Tarasso killing incident on January 29, 2014. The media houses in Itanagar decided to shut down fearing for their safety and security on February 13, 2014, after a fierce confrontation with an organisation over news regarding its role in defusing tension along Assam-Arunachal boundary.

The repulsive episode kept on playing for couple of weeks prompting the district administration to declare 144 CrPC around the media house premises after 5 pm on 18th February 2014.

The year 2014 will be also remembered as the most hilarious year as there was a brazen attempt to bribe journalists (both print and electronic) by the oldest political party of India. The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee spontaneously denied and played down the news though journalists were still waving the money given in envelops to register their protest. Later the party stated that envelops were mistakenly distributed.

The year 2014 was a topsy-turvy year for the media fraternity; the Arunachal Press Club president virtually turned "Chief Justice" unintended. He was caught up in between various warring factions of so-and-so organisations fighting for their legitimacy.

The year will be cherished as Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had enhanced media colony fund from existing Rs.2 crore to Rs.3 crore.

The transformation of The Dawnlit Post from black and white to a colour newspaper brought smiles on reader's faces. Its former editor Gabriel D Wangsu elected as Kanubari MLA from Congress will be remembered and joining of Eastern Sentinel CEO Jarpum Gamlin to BJP become the talk of the town.

As the year 2015 begins, we pull up our socks to move on and wave away the topsy-turvy 2014 to say farewell.

Sports minister aims to provide facilities in rural areas

GUWAHATI, Jan 03: The Union Sports Ministry is implementing a number of important schemes for promotion of sports in the country by developing rural and urban sports infrastructure, competition events and financial assistance for youth development activities.

Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters here on Saturday that the main intention was to make the sports facilities available, particularly in the rural areas to encourage sports talent there.

The aim was to also make sports a way of life, help the youth in nation and character building process, improve physical and mental health and inculcate the good values of human life, Sonowal said.

Under the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA), his ministry proposed to construct a Sports Complex in each block of the country at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore.

The funds for the RGKA will be arranged in convergence with the MGNREGA and the ministries of Rural Development, Panchayat, DONER and Planning Commission to build indoor and outdoor sports infrastructure in the 7000 plus blocks across the country, Sonowal said.

In addition, the Department of Sports will provide Rs 15 lakh for sports equipment for each block complex, Sonowal said, adding, in the case of the North East states the funds will be arranged in convergence with DONER ministry.

The Minister also said Physical Education teachers would be appointed and he would take up the matter with the Union Human Resource Development Ministry for giving marks for sports.

As part of the National Sports Talent Search Scheme, Sonowal said competitions would be held for 8-12 year students and all possible support would be provided to them, including nutritious food, equipment, training and institutional support.

The national Youth Festival will be held in Guwahati from January 8 till 12th with Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, IIT, IIM students among others taking part in the event to be attended by boxer Mary Kom, cricketer Virender Sehwag, wrestler Sushil Kumar, amputee Himalayan conqueror Arunima Sinha, the minister said.

A Himalayan Region Sports Festival would also be held here in April next with teams from Nepal, Bhutan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, NE states and Sikkim demonstrating indigenous games and martial arts, besides participating in archery, athletics, boxing, football, judo, taekwando and wrestling, Sonowal said.

The Indian Olympic Association has informed his ministry that the SAARC games have been decided to be held in Guwahati, he said.

Stating the SI centres would be upgraded, he said emphasis would be laid on opening sports medicine and sports science Centres in the NE region. PTI
